SPORTS POLICY

The school believes that all learners should be provided the opportunity to participate in extra curricular activities so as to develop their talents in activities outside the formal education in the classroom. The sporting codes offered by the school will be determined from time to time by the resources available at the school’s disposal for promoting such activities to the optimum level.

Duties

· Sports Organiser: Supervision and running of all sports activities in the school including entertainment and educational tours.

· Assistant Sports Organiser: Assist the Sports Organiser in the running of sports in general including entertainment and educational tours and to be in charge of the above mentioned duties in his absence.

· Secretary: To send out challenges to other schools and accept or decline invitations in writing. To be in charge of all other sports correspondence.

· Treasurer: To be in charge of all monies concerning sports; hiring of buses; collection of monies from learners and payments of sports expenses.

· Additional Members: All the seven members are responsible for different school activities e.g. soccer; netball; softball; volleyball; athletics; boxing and tennis.

Sports Practising Days And Times

1. Athletics: Practising days for athletics:

(i) Mornings: 06h00 to 07h00 from Tuesdays to Fridays
(ii) Afternoons: 14h00 to 16h00 Tuesdays and Thursdays

2. Other Activities: e.g. soccer; netball; softball, etc.
Wednesdays: Time: 13h00 to 15h00

Procedures

1. Athletics:

Trainers responsible for athletics divide the pupils into houses at the beginning of each year. Each house must have a housemaster and his assistant. Each housemaster must elect a captain; vice captain in each event i.e. Track and Field events. In each house the pupils are divided into two age group according to their sexes.

(i) Girls = Under 14 years
Boys = Under 15 years
(ii) Girls = Over and above 14 years
Boys = Over and above 15 years

Girls and boys under age are allowed to compete in the Open Sections but those above the age limit are not allowed to compete in the Junior Sections.
Other Activities

Pupils are divided into age groups:

(i) Under 14 years
Between 14 and 16 years
Between 16 and 20 years and above

(ii) Under 15 years
Between 15 and 17 years
Between 17 and 20 years and above
Notices

An itinerary is drawn up by the Sports Committee at the beginning of the year of all sporting activities; starting from friendly games to league matches; and days for Inter House Competitions to Regional Competitions and this itinerary is pinned on the Bulletin Board in each class.

Announcements

The Sports Organiser or his/her assistant at assembly makes announcements concerning games to be played each Wednesday or Saturday.

Sports Equipment

All equipment and attire are looked after by the different educators responsible in each activity. Caretakers amongst the learners are selected to look after equipment and the cleanliness of attire.

Sports Grounds

The school has managed to develop a make shift netball ground and a soccer field in the school’s vicinity. These need to be developed hopefully with the assistance from the GDE.

Conservation Of Sports Grounds

The school uses hired help to maintain the soccer field. The netball field is maintained by the grounds men with the assistance provided by learners and the educator responsible.

Bus Arrangements

The treasurer makes bus arrangements and the procedure for payment is by Cheque with all pupils undertaking the trip receipted.


Refreshments (Visitors)

The School Catering Committee is responsible for catering to visitors i.e. Educators and Players. The school finances all the catering for Educators and Players according to the financial status of the school and according to the budget.

Sports Participation By Pupils

Pupils of all age groups must take part or are given the opportunity to take part in the activities of the school, under the supervision of educators. Participation by different pupils is allowed but age groupings must strictly be adhered to. Age groupings allow for learners of different age groups to participate or compete in different categories.

Safety Of Learners

For the safety of learners the responsible educator should be present during all practising sessions. A sports first aid kit will be available at the grounds for the treatment of minor injuries, which may be sustained by learners during a practising session.

Sports Outings

Trips will be undertaken in accordance with the itinerary as drawn up at the beginning of the year.

For every thirty learners undertaking the trip there should be one educator to accompanying the learners.

All learners must complete indemnity forms, which are signed by their parents before they can be allowed to undertake the trip.
